Jesus’ defence of ‘mixing with the wrong company’ culminates in the Pharisees mocking what He says in the 4th parable. A very wealthy man loses his dishonest business manager, fired for squandering his riches. Why is the crafty way the manager secures his future, praised? Because he acted decisively in his moment of opportunity. It makes sense to respond to the gospel message, like the tax collectors and prostitutes did. Better that, than ignore it and join the Pharisees and the folk on the Titanic, laughing our way to disaster.
